Sphere vs. touring revenue
It's possible that Dead & Co. will make more from their two Sphere residencies (2024 & 2025) than their entire touring career (1965-1995). They made $130m in 2024 (covers ’65-’88), and if they match that this year, they’ll have made equal revenue to ’65-’92). Some say ’92 was the symbolic end of the Grateful Dead anyway—Jerry collapsed on stage and cancelled the tour, and the last 3 years weren’t the same.
Tickets were $3 in 1969 ($25.97 in today’s value). That’s a 60x difference to Sphere tickets.
I think this instance is unique from Paul McCartney, Elton John, and The Rolling Stones: Jerry is dead, and it all happens from one city.
