Elephants and Lobsters
Note to David on podcast scope:
"Then we can bridge this into writing by comparing 'Consider the Lobster' & 'Shooting an Elephant' (a popular essay by Orwell). In many ways they’re opposite (saving vs. shooting an animal, digressions vs. plot, maximalist vs. minimalist), yet they both score 9/10. Each has a high-concept title (like “snakes on a plane”) which makes the context load light. I’m thinking the majority of X-ray examples can come from these two essays. And since “essay” is part of the framing for my project, it makes sense to deconstruct a DFW essay in high detail (probably the most famous essay since 2000)."
